The holidays are commonly known as the most wonderful time of the year- and for good reason! These last few joyous months of the year are filled with holiday parties, family get-togethers, delicious foods and time spent with the ones you love. Unfortunately, no matter how hard you try it seems that weight gain during this time of year is nearly inevitable. At the end of the day though, it is not about how you look, but rather about how you FEEL and cherishing time spent with those you love. However, if you want to avoid adding on a few extra pounds this year, here are some tips on how to avoid holiday weight gain.
Don’t Deprive Yourself of Treats
Between the holiday work parties, get-togethers with friends and neighbors, and your family party with grandma’s famous cookies, you are bound to slip up and indulge on some not so healthy foods. And that is okay! In fact, indulging in a sweet treat every now and then is much better than trying to avoid it altogether. If you try to completely deprive yourself, you are much more likely to have a big slip up that can be difficult to bounce back from. So have your cake and eat it too, just make sure to keep things in moderation.
Buy Yourself a Gift Too
The holiday season is a time of giving, but don’t leave yourself off of the nice list! Sometimes a brand new pair of yoga pants or workout shorts is the perfect form of motivation to get out and crush a workout. So when you are out shopping for your kids or your in-laws, don’t be afraid to grab a little something for yourself, too! It may be just what you need to get out of your holiday workout rut.
The Sole product lineup is absolutely perfect this time of year. When the weather is cold and the roads are daunting, Sole offers the perfect solution for you to be able to get your workout in at home with any one of our impressive cardio machines. Take a run on one of our treadmills or a spin on a Sole bike in the comfort of your own home. This way you can get in a good sweat session without having to fight all of the holiday traffic on the way to the gym.
You can never achieve a goal you didn’t set for yourself. So take the time to write down your goals in order to finish 2016 strong! Whether it is a goal to work out three to four times a week, or to fit into that New Year’s Eve outfit you bought, make sure you write down your goals and then go out and smash them! Having this kind of goal setting mindset will allow you to easily transition into setting goals for the New Year and setting yourself up for the best year ever.
Drink Lots of Water
While it may be tempting to only drink ‘fun’ drinks this time of year, it is so important to make sure you are staying hydrated and drinking lots of water. Not only will this make you feel better, but it will also positively affect the way you look too. Water has so many benefits such as improving your mood, treating headaches and migraines, aiding in digestion and weight loss, flushing out toxins (perhaps from a holiday party) and so much more! So between all of the festive drinks, make sure you are sipping on some good old fashioned water, too.
Park Further Away
When you head to the mall for a shopping trip or to dinner with friends, try to park as far away from the entrance as possible. This may seem silly, but these steps really do add up. You are likely going to be making more than a few stops at the mall this holiday season, and getting in those extra steps will really help your body combat the unhealthy, albeit tasty foods you are sure to enjoy.
