Summer is officially upon us and with these rising temperatures it is so important to stay hydrated and drink a lot of water. It is recommended that each person drinks at least half their body weight in ounces of water every day. For some, however, drinking water does not come easy. It is easy to forget about drinking water or forego water for a more sugary drink, but the benefits of drinking water make putting in the extra effort all worth it. Here are 7 ways to drink more water.
Set a reminder on your phone
If remembering to drink water throughout the day is a problem for you, simply set a timer on your phone to tell you when it’s time to take a swig. The timing of the reminders and the amount of water is all up to you. For example, you can set a timer for the top of every hour that says ‘Drink 8 oz of water’. This isn’t a lot of water to drink at once and it will still ensure that you are getting enough water throughout the day.
Try fruit infused water
If the taste of water doesn’t exactly delight your taste buds, try adding a little flavor to it. There are plenty of fruit infused water recipes to try out, and often times adding fresh fruit to your water can actually increase the benefits of drinking water. Find a combination that you love, like strawberries and mint, and before you know it you will look forward to all the water you get to drink every day.
Drink a glass before every meal
Before any meal or snack, fill up a cup or two of water and drink it down! This is a great way to remember to drink water and it’s also helpful for weight loss. You may find that you weren’t actually hungry, but rather just thirsty and the water may help to curb your appetite.
Drink a glass after every bathroom break
It is important to replenish the water in your body throughout the day that is lost either through bathroom breaks or sweating.
Drink carbonated water
If soda is your weak spot and you love the feeling of the fizz, then sparkling water may be the answer for you. It will give you the same bubbly sensation as sodas with none of the extra calories and heaps of sugar often found in soft drinks.
Invest in a filter
If you don’t like the taste of tap water and you’d rather not spend the money on buying water bottles, invest in a good water filter. Water filters provide better tasting and better smelling drinking water by removing chlorine and bacterial contaminants often found it tap water.
Invest in a good water bottle
During the summer months, your once ice cold glass of water can quickly turn into a melty warm glass of water. This is neither as tasty nor as satisfying to drink, so invest in a good water bottle that will keep you water ice cold for hours on end like this one. You can also try a high-tech water bottle like this one that will record every ounce as you sip, and sends the information directly to your cell. Depending on the number of ounces your water bottle holds, make it a goal to drink a certain number of those bottles per day depending on your daily intake goal.
