People tell themselves that they will indulge during the holiday season and then get to work as soon as January 1st rolls around. If you are one of those people, consider how much easier it will be for you to work hard during the new year if you have already built a foundation of endurance and strength in these last few months of the year. Believe it or not, just because the calendar year changes, it does not mean that your mindset or willpower to workout will change as well. Stop waiting for calendar reasons to workout and start doing it for yourself right now! Start today, and your future self with thank you.

Pumpkin turkey chili
As the weather gets colder, the meals get warmer. This is the perfect fall meal that is sure to leave everyone at the dinner table full and satisfied. This healthy soup packs tons of vitamin A, protein and antioxidants. Pumpkin turkey chili would also be a delicious meal to feed your trick-or-treaters before they head out for a night of candy collecting. Not to mention, a full, warm stomach may keep them from snacking in between houses!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 tbsp virgin coconut oil
- 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
- 3/4 chopped green bell pepper
- 3/4 chopped yellow bell pepper
- 1 1/2 cans, 6 oz chopped green chiles
- 1 1/2 large minced garlic clove
- 1 1/2 lbs leftover chopped turkey
- 1 1/2 cans, 10-11 oz diced tomatoes
- 1 1/2 cans, 10-11 oz red kidney beans
- 1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin
- 2 1/4 tbsp chili powder
- 3/4 tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- Couple of shakes of cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 3/4 cup greek yogurt
- 2 tsp of cinnamon
Directions:
First, heat the oil in a large skillet on medium-high heat. Next, saute the onion, peppers, green chiles, and garlic until tender (roughly 10 minutes). Make room on the pan and add leftover turkey (roughly 5 minutes). Stir in tomatoes, beans, and pumpkin. Season with chili powder, cumin, sea salt, and pepper. Lastly, put on low heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes. Mix in fresh cilantro and stir in with plain greek yogurt and cinnamon to serve. Voila, you’re pumpkin turkey chili is ready for eight.
Healthy oatmeal cookie smoothie
If you ever get a cookie craving (guilty!) then this smoothie is an excellent and healthy alternative to satisfy your sweet tooth. It is full of fiber and energy to get you through they day, and it’s quick and easy to make!
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 frozen (peeled) banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1-2 Tbsp. honey (to taste)
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- pinch of nutmeg
- pinch of salt
- (optional: 1/4 cup raisins)
Directions:
Add oats to blender, and pulse until finely ground. Add remaining ingredients and pulse until blended and smooth. Serve immediately.
