Whether you want to tone your body, burn calories or improve your cardiovascular endurance, a stationary bike can help you achieve these goals. In order to get the results you desire, however, you should know what to look for when buying a Sole stationary bike.

Choosing the Right Style

The first thing you need to do when buying a stationary bike is decide between an upright or a stationary model. An upright bike is similar to the traditional bike, while a recumbent bike is lower to the ground and allows you to sit at a slightly different angle. Since recumbent bikes offer back support and larger seats, many people find them to be a more comfortable option. Both upright and recumbent bikes provide an excellent workout, so deciding between the two is really just a matter of preference. If you have bone or joint problems, however, a recumbent bike will probably be easier for you to use and will cause less strain on your joints and bones.

Considering the Height

Another factor you need to consider when buying a stationary bike is the height of the bike. Not only do you want to be able to get on and off the bike comfortably, you also want to choose a bike that allows you to extend your legs comfortably while pedaling. Ideally, the bike should allow you to make adjustments to the height. Consider who will be using the bike when determining how much height adjustment is necessary.

Examining the Seat

Since you will likely be spending a great deal of time pedaling on your new stationary bike, it is important to select a model with a comfortable seat. In general, recumbent bikes offer the most comfortable seat option. You can, however, find a comfortable seat with an upright bike as well. Just make sure the seat is large enough and comfortable enough to accommodate all who will be using the bike.

Checking on the Pedals

Since your exercise routine will involve pedaling on your bike, you also need to make sure the pedals operate in a smooth fashion. While you do want a bike that can provide you with more resistance as necessary, the pedals should also move easily without getting hung up or stuck.

Exploring Program Options

Ideally, your stationary bike should offer a variety of different exercise programs for you to select from. This way, you can vary your routine as you like. Not only will this help keep you from getting bored, but it also allows you to target specific fitness goals.
