You have met with your trainer. You have set you goals. You have even started on a fitness plan. While you have certainly done a lot of work already, your journey is just beginning. Now, the trick is to find a way to keep yourself motivated and continuing with the plan that you have created. Although it can be difficult to find ways to stay motivated in your fitness plan, there are a few simple steps that you can take to ensure you keep moving forward with your plan.
1. Set short-term goals
Setting short-term goals is one way to keep yourself moving forward with your fitness goals. If your long-term goal is run a mile in under 8 minutes, for example, you might set a short-term goal to shave off 15 seconds every month. Or, if your goal is to lose 80 pounds, set short-term goals of losing 5 pounds at a time and celebrate each success.
2. Give yourself planned breaks
Giving yourself planned breaks is a great way to give your body the time it needs to recover from workouts. It also give you a day to look forward to taking a break from your workout routine. If you decide to take off Friday every week, for example, you know you only have to make it through six days before you can relax and forget about working out for an entire day.
3. Work out with others
Working out with other people can serve as great motivation. Even on those days when you do not feel like working out, you are more likely to do your work out if you know others are counting on you.
4. Join an accountability group
If you can’t physically work out with other people, joining an accountability group can still help you stay on track. If you have a group of people who are also trying to get fit, you can check-in on each other and ensure you are all sticking with your exercise routines. You can also inspire and motivate each other on those days that you are struggling to get moving.
5. Track your progress
Tracking your progress is an excellent way to keep yourself motivated and moving forward. If you are trying to lose weight and the scale has not been budging, it can be even more difficult to keep on track. By looking back through the records that you have kept of your progress, however, you can see just how far you have come. Keeping your eye on the big picture will help you continue to move forward with your exercise routine.
There is no doubt that staying motivated in a fitness plan can be difficult. By setting realistic goals and celebrating your achievements, however, you will be more likely to stick to the plan and see the long-term results you desire.
